Important Question About Ryze EnrollmentViews: 624

This is a serious question. Is it possible to enroll someone else up in Ryze and place that person on two networks. Believe it or not, there are still folks who do not know the difference between a regular web site and a network. When they come to something like Ryze they feel intimidated. Even if you give the link to a particular network, they may not take the necessary steps to join, because to them it seems too complicated...to much of a hassle. Therefore, rather than join Ryze - let alone numerous networks - they are content to simply do without.

I recently got a network going with help from fellow Ryzers for people who are NOT particularly Internet savvy. They live in my small town of Middletown, CA. To help make it easy for them to be on Ryze, I would like to enroll specifically people. Is there a way I can do that? If so, please instruct me in the process.

Hello Lamar

It's a complete wast of time doing things FOR people. They have no idea what you did, so they are even more confused.

We have to find ways to help people to help themselves. You can only effective help people who are "ready". The have to have enough online experience to understand that joining Ryze is a next step for them.

I'm trying to promote the Global Engagement Trust to help educate people.
http://www.ate.co.nz/global/

Three things people need to do.
Know how to make you computer SAFE.
Find sources of good data, join some list serves, yahoo groups or find other people who share your interests.
Join an active social network (eg Ryze)

So Lamar have your people done the first two things on that list? If not, Ryze may be a step too far.

This group should also be aware or the Kabissa Principles:
"Time to Get Online: Simple steps to success on the Internet."
http://get.wikispaces.com/Kabissa+Principles

This tells us two more steps, that the members here are already engaged in.

Establishing and maintaining you own online identity.
Becoming an advocate for things that are important to you.

Ryze needs to include in the joining process THREE new options to help new members in their FIRST MONTH on Ryze.

1. Joining a new members only network, under the guidance of two experienced Ryze members. People will remain members here until the "pass" having set up an informative Ryze page, and joined many networks and found a couple of friends and got their guestbook working. ONLY THEN should Ryze list these people as NEW MEMBERS.

2. Alternatively they could choose to join several "helper" networks like this one. Since the newbies don't know what to do Ryze needs to say "start here" and enroll the person in several networks.

3. There could very easily be an option where new members choose a MENTOR to help them get established on Ryze. There are lots of experienced free members who would love to do this in return for gold member privileges.

I've tried to talk to Adrian Scott about this. No enthusiasm on his part so far.

Regards
John

John,

Both you and DeAnna joined the Project-Middletown Ryze Network. That's a network designed to bring people who live in my local area in touch with people like yourself. But, that is not going to happen unless they take some initiative to join Ryze. While I want to make the process easy and educational, I do not want to help people who could care less about what is being given them. I want to help people who seriously want to learn.

I may be able to do that by using my church's multimedia center on a Saturday morning. I can show Ryze on a big screen to as many as 160 people at one time. I can show them how Ryze works. I may even be able to register individuals to the network. Where they take it for them is up to them. But, in order to get this help, they must make the effort to come to the church on a specific Saturday morning. This is a "put up or shut up" proposition. Someone is willing to help the folks of Middltown become Internet savvy. But, they have to make an effort to come to a specific gathering. I think it could make for an interesting experiment.

Hello Lamar

We're not in beginner territory now, we're talking advanced networking.

I think the key is a soft approach. People are scared of the Internet, that's one reason why they know so little about it and why they use it so badly.

The "Kabissa Principles" although designed for Africa, actually identify the key issues very well.
http://get.wikispaces.com/Kabissa+Principles

There are FIVE key ideas.
1. Make your computer safe.
2. Find and join other people who share your interests. (Lists)
3. Join and participate in a social network.
4. Establish and maintain your own on-line identity.
5. Become a leader and advocate for the things you believe are important.

You can present that set of ideas at church and get a strong buy in I believe.

Then you address at a different time, who's worried about their computer not being safe?
How do we find and join groups of like-minded people?
What's a social network and why should I join?

That last line is probably worth a discussion here.

Regards
John

Understand also, Lamar, that many people in Middletown not only don't have computers, but don't WANT computers!

Your focus must be on those that have computers and have a NEED.

What is that need and how can exposure work for them.

If they don't see value in this, then yours is a lost cause.

The name of the game is VALUE!

Althea & John,

At last Thursday's Middletown Area Town Hall meeting, not only did I make an annoucement about this Ryze Project-Middletown network, but I passed out cards to everyone who was there - approximately 50 people. The card had the website link on it. Well, you see how many people from Middletown have joined. It should be interesting to see if when this Friday's paper comes out if my article there makes any difference. Plus, I will be annoucing it once again this coming Thursday at a morning meeting of the local business association. Make no mistake, the people in this town are going to know that the network is there. But, as Ernesto Sirolli has often stated, "You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink it."
