Writing articles will give you status as an expert, will help you build valuable back links to your website, and will attract your prospects to you.
People look for you because you offer something of value. Give the reader an offer of additional information. Use a sign-in box and offer a report or e-book. Use a list so you can keep your traffic. People are looking for information, so you can easily find success by writing
articles. My favorite place to publish articles is http://ezinearticles.com/

Sylvia,

Yes, articles are a good tool. But, I encourage you to think small and targeted. Focus on who you want and where they are located. You can easily spend a lot of money advertising in the newspaper, on the radio and on TV and waste a lot of money. Or, you think think passionately and focus on just THREE RESOURCES to help you spread your message and practice the "pay it forward" approach. Remember, the BEST form of advertising is the "personal referral." Just one person to three people. Then, three people to nine...nine to 27 and so on. In just two weeks (14 days) it is mathematically possible to reach 4,782,696 people with a passionate message.

Keep in mind that when it comes to marketing yourself, cleverness counts. Remember the example of how Mike Huckabee won the Iowa for the Republican Presidential race. He teased the press about not running an attack ad and then drew that "line in the sand" and told the press not to cross it...AFTER he had shown the ad to them. The press wanted that ad to boost their ratings - not to help Huckabee win the race in Iowa. But, getting ahold of the ad helped both the press get what it wanted and Huckabee to get what he wanted.

If you would like to get a Fortune 500 company as a client, do this: 1) Create a buzz for your business with a stack of letters in a padded envelope sent to the Investor Relations Dept. of the company - include an open letter of explanation to the department. 2) Instruct the Investor Relations Dept. to send you an annual report and send the package back to the mail room to have its contents (individual letters) delivered. It is important you make the process a bit complicated so the company employees actually WANT to figure out what is REALLY going on here. 3) The individual envelopes do not have stamps on them, but are addressed to specific people by name and name only. No street address, city, state and zipcode. No, this needs to at least appear to be inter-office mail. 4) Hopefully, when all mail is delivered companty members will figure out that this is actually a cleverly executed campaign and will be eager to make the acquaintance of the person who was the mastermind behind it.

I have seen this approach work. That is why I encourage folks on a limited advertising budget to give it a try. You may be surprised at just how efficient a process like this can be...and at a very reasonable cost.

A man to follow - Jay Abraham. On how to stand out in this Attention Age:

The 4 Steps To
Stand Out As A Maven - by Jay:
1. See things no one else can see
2. Care about your market at a seminal level (really care about their outcome)
3. Engineer maximum quantity, quality and consistency of breakthroughs in marketing, strategy, innovation and management
4. Creative collaborations with mentors, mastermind groups, and braintrusts.

The biggest thing I took from his advice is; no-one can do everything alone. You need that mastermind group.

Sylvia,

Yes, indeed. People need people to make their marketing message work. One of the best little Youtube videos I have come across about "spreading one's business message" uses SOAP as an example. How would you sell soap to the public? What would be your smartest and most cost-effective option?

While I doubt most of the public reading this message want to sell soap, the concept behind the "marketing buzz" is what is important. To see the video in question, click here.

Great ideas from both of you.

In this day and age creating a viral marketing campaign is also a vital tool for targeting and penetrating your ideal market-- and the best part is that it is extremely low-cost! You can learn more about this at BrandMyBooks.com.

Creating videos is another great way to get the word out about your product and website. Click Here to see some samples of how this can be done and Click Here to get the tools you need to create the movie. It is sooo incredibly simple and FUN! I have had an absolute blast creating movies over the past few months.

Let me know if you have any questions or need any help with these two important pieces of your marketing plan.

Lamar says it's like selling soap.
If I were to sell soap should I look for dirty people?
OR look for people who want or need to be clean?

;)

~P

Either way.. we got to look for our target market. hmmm

Paul,

Here's a question for you: "How do you entice local folks online who could use your service, but are not looking for you to come to you for your service? One possible solution I have been told is the services of LocalAdLink.com. Watch the video and let me know what you think.
